UFOs are unidentified flying objects that have aroused the curiosity and awe of many people in the world. Do they really exist? Are they of extraterrestrial origin? What does the US government know about them?
These are some of the questions that have been raised for decades, and that have recently gained more relevance due to the statements of some former US officials and military personnel who claim to have evidence of the existence of UFOs and their non-human operators.
On July 26, the US Congress held a historic hearing in which it heard the testimony of three former members of the Army: Ryan Graves and David Fravor, former Navy aviators; and David Grusch, former Pentagon intelligence officer.
Grusch was the most blunt in stating that the government owns several UFOs, as well as biological remains of their pilots. According to him, his evidence is based on interviews with more than 40 witnesses whose testimonies were collected over the last years and that remain in the possession of the inspector general and the intelligence committees.
Fravor, on the other hand, recounted that in 2004 he witnessed an object shaped like a tic tac that had flight capabilities impossible for human technology². Graves agreed with him by stating that UFOs are real and that they pose a threat to national security².
These statements come after the US government published a report on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) in June, in which it acknowledged that it cannot explain the nature or origin of more than 140 sightings recorded by military pilots and sensors.
The report also did not rule out the possibility that they are advanced technologies from other countries or even other civilizations. However, the government has been criticized for its lack of transparency and for hiding classified information on this topic.
